Abstract:- The idea of “One Nation, One Election” aims to hold elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies at the same time. Supporters say combining elections can cut costs and reduce efforts needed for campaigning and administration. They believe this can make the process more efficient. Proponents also argue that holding elections together can prevent policy delays and promote stable governance. With elections synchronized, leaders can focus on long-term plans instead of being caught up in constant campaigning. Critics, however, warn that this might weaken federalism by blurring the lines between state and national issues. They express concerns about the logistical challenges of managing joint elections. There are also worries that regional problems could get pushed aside by national priorities, affecting how well local representatives serve their communities. This article explores whether synchronized elections are practical, their benefits, and the hurdles they face. It also considers the wider social, political, and constitutional effects of such a move in India.
